19 Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out? 20 And He said to them, “Because of your meager faith; for truly I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.”

Matthew 17:19-20

Our Commission – Make Disciples

So that the world would know the good news of salvation through Jesus, He commands us to make disciples of the nations.  There are five primary Biblical passages where this command is given.

Mark 16:15 which tells us to go into the world and preach the gospel to all creation; John 20:21, as as Jesus was sent to us, we are sent into the world; Acts 1:8, the Holy Spirit is the power given to us for this mission; Luke 24:46-47, to proclaim repentance and forgiveness of sins; Matthew 28:19-20; our commission to make disciples of all nations.

Dave Wirgau’s Archer Illustration teaches us how we can reach the nations with the Gospel of Jesus Christ through discipleship.

What you see in your circumstances in your physical life has a corresponding action taking place in the spiritual world.  In the Bible the Apostle Paul explains there is a warfare taking place that is not against anything you can see with our eyes, but is against unseen spiritual forces (Ephesians 6:12).  For circumstances to change in your physical life, the victory needs to be won in the spiritual realm.

Your enemy Satan works in circumstances to steal from you, kill you, and destroy you (John 10:10), to put a person in homelessness and keep that person there.  What Satan does not want you to know is that Jesus Christ defeated him at the cross (Colossians 2:13-15) and that if Jesus Christ sets you free, you are free (John 8:32) and you no longer have to be controlled by the influence of Satan.

When you put your faith in Jesus Christ for salvation, you fight your spiritual warfare from victory, not for victory.  So while you engage in spiritual warfare in this physical world you have divinely powerful weapons that help you live victoriously (2 Corinthians 10:3-5, Ephesians 6:13-18).
